Description:
The Ascension Family Altar Society is a service organization that assists the Pastor with needs of the parish. The organization’s founding purpose was to purchase and maintain all items necessary in and for the celebration of Mass. Adding functions and responsibilities, the Altar Society currently includes representing the Parish at diocesan events, participating in parish and community events and maintaining a working relationship with other organizations within the parish. We host the annual Confirmation and Baccalaureate receptions and the Community Christmas Stroll. Proceeds from the annual turkey and dressing dinners are used for Scholarships and continuing education conferences for the members. We do funeral meals, Clerical Endowment enrollment and encourage participation in the church festival.
The society is also responsible for the church votive candles and education pamphlets at the entrance of the church. We send marriage certificates to couples celebrating 50 years or more of marriage, “get well greetings,” and anniversary cards. All members and families are remembered with memorial Mass cards in the event of a death in one of our parish families.
Additionally, the Altar Society strives to be an active member of the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW), participating in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) yearly conference and hosting quarterly Southern Council of Catholic Women (Sccw) meetings when scheduled. We participate in the registry of 50 year+ marriages for the NCCW as well as in the registry of deceased members.
We welcome all new members to come and join or come and visit.
